Rosa Shanina (April 3, 1924, Edma, Vologda Province - January 28, 1945, Reichau, East Prussia) - Soviet single-shot sniper of a separate platoon of female snipers of the 3rd Belorussian Front, knight of the Order of Glory; one of the first female snipers awarded this award. She was known for her ability to accurately shoot at moving targets with a doublet - two consecutive shots. On the account of Rosa Shanina, 59 confirmed destroyed soldiers and officers of the enemy were recorded.
Member of Vilnius and Instersburg-Königsberg operations. Despite the fact that Rosa Shanina participated in the hostilities for less than a year, the newspapers of the countries of the Anti-Hitler coalition called her “the invisible horror of East Prussia”. On January 28, 1945, Rosa Shanina died of wounds received the day before during the cover of the seriously wounded artillery unit commander.
