It is known from history that the arrival of the Bolsheviks in 1917 was accompanied by the abolition of all types of awards and decorations that existed during the Russian Empire. At this time, awards to the Fatherland were replaced by personalized gifts, but still there was a need for real, honorary awards. It was then, on the initiative of Y. Sverdlov, that the All-Russian Central Executive Committee created a commission, which actively began to work on the projects of the first award in the USSR. On the anniversary of the coming to power of the Bolsheviks, the Order of the Red Banner of the RSFSR was established. This was the only medal in the award system of the Soviet state. Was presented for bravery, courage in the defense of the new socialist society.
