Larger size daily use tzute measuring 42 inches wide x 39 inches long, from Panajachel, an old Maya town on the shores of Lake Atitlan, now a destination for tourists.
Utilitarian tzutes with colorful warp stripes such as this are made in Panajachel for a multitude of daily uses. This particular textile was handwoven on a backstrap loom in two panels. This is a traditional tzute with wide warp stripes in traditional jaspe or ikat designs. Two of the panel ends are selvage finished and two are hemmed. Construction is all cotton. Larger tzutes such as this are used for carrying cloths, for babies or for vegetables.
Dimensions: approximately 42 inches wide and 39 inches long.
Condition: Very Good, lightly used, a few loose threads and light soil possible
